I spent Spring 2019 studying in the Population Studies Department at the University of Botswana, meeting impressive young people, auditing a Demography of Botswana course, presenting to Social Studies educators on tech integration, conducting 30+ interviews, visiting six government and private schools, assisting an NGO with SDGs seminars for youth, creating curriculum for geography learners and fellow geographic educators and meandering hot, dusty roads.
My Fulbright Inquiry Project entitled "Botswana: Harnessing the Demographic Dividend to Achieve the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals" focused on understanding changing population demographics in Botswana and efforts by government, education and NGOs to harness the power of youth for progress toward the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, I sought out connections for future dialogue between U.S. and Batswana youth on sustainable development topics.
